Anticoagulation
This Lesson Series will discuss how coagulation processes change with ECMO and how to manage anticoagulation on ECMO.
When the learner completes this course they will be able to:
*Describe the blood surface interactions of the artificial surfaces of the ECMO circuit
*Define heparin pharmacology
*Outline the use of laboratory testing including activated clotting times (ACT's)
*Explain the testing parameters for anticoagulation
*Define the importance of Antithrombin III for anticoagulation with heparin
*Understand the difference of direct thrombin inhibitors for anticoagulation
