Weaning and Trail Off ECMO

Overview: This course covers content related to weaning, trialing off, and decannulation for both VV and VA ECMO.
After completing this course, the learner will be able to:
1. Define weaning for Venoarterial and Venovenous ECMO
2. Describe the weaning process for cardiac and respiratory ECMO
3. Explain what the differences are for trialing off VA or VV ECMO
4. Detail the precautions taken during decannulation 5. Explain when to take a patient off who has not improved
6. Describe the support of the family in the event of an unsuccessful ECMO run
